Ford’s body-mounted mirrors stay put regardless of door removal, so rearward visibility isn’t affected. Just fold the mirrors forward before pulling the front doors.

Tools Checklist Before You Start

• Ford-supplied Bronco tool kit (includes a 13mm hex socket tool and fender/door protectors)
• OEM door storage bags (available through Ford)
• A helper for rear hardtop sections and 2-Door front doors
• A padded workbench or blanket for setting doors down
• Your owner’s manual for model-specific torque specs

First attempts typically take about 20 minutes per door. With practice, that drops to around 5 minutes.

Safely Removing the Doors

1. Turn the ignition to accessory mode, fully lower the windows on the doors you’re removing, then turn the ignition off.
2. Fold the mirrors forward completely before removing front doors.
3. Fully open the door you’re removing.
4. Install the fender and door protectors from the tool pouch: one over the fender edge near the upper hinge, the other on the door edge near the bottom hinge.
5. Open the wire connector cover to release the connector, pull it from the body, then make sure the connector cover is seated closed.
6. Place the door storage bag on the door before you lift it. The bag needs to cover the edges and corners, and this happens before removal, not after.
7. Remove the lower and upper hinge bolts with the 13mm socket. Store the bolts in the tool pouch pocket.
8. Lift the door straight up using the lower lift handle and the exterior door handle. Zip the bag shut.

On 4-Door Broncos, the rear doors are manageable solo. The larger 2-Door front doors go easier with a second person.

Safely Removing the Roof

Freedom Panels

1. Fold the sun visors down to reach the latches.
2. Unlatch the driver’s-side header panel at the top of the windshield.
3. Unlock the three L-shaped latches on the driver’s-side front panel by turning them.
4. Lift the panel off and store it. Repeat on the passenger side.

Center panel (4-Door)

Once both front panels are off, unlatch the driver’s and passenger sides of the center panel, then unlock its three L-shaped locks. This one wants a second person to lift.

Rear Hardtop or Soft Top

1. Open the tailgate and lift the tailgate window.
2. Disconnect the wiring harness by pushing the tab to release and pulling down, then do the same with the hose connector.
3. Plug both into their dedicated receptacles inside the vehicle rather than letting them dangle.
4. Remove the two screws at the C-pillar and the four screws on each side at the base of the rear panel.
5. With a helper, lift the panel straight up until the locating pins clear. Store it on a padded surface with the tailgate window open. The rear section is the heavy one. This is a two-person job, not a place to prove anything.

For the soft top, release the Velcro along the top of the rear window, flip it up, remove the top corners from their slots, and fold the top down.

Storing Your Panels and Doors Properly

Store doors vertically against a wall, ideally in their OEM storage bags. Roof panels should be laid flat, painted side up, off the ground on a padded shelf or wall hanger; the two front panels can share a single storage bag with a protective divider between them.

If your Bronco has the onboard storage kit, the upper bag strap wraps around the rear-seat headrest without crushing it, and the lower hooks attach to the forward cargo rings. When storing doors on board, remove them in this order: left rear first, left front second, right front third, right rear last. Two things worth flagging. The rear seat occupant alert won’t function once doors are removed. And Ford recommends avoiding high speed or serious rock crawling while you’re carrying doors in the back.
